Actor turned politicain Vijay’s poll promises, including 8 gram gold for marriage which is worth about 14000 per gram (22 carat)? Is it really good move?

Possibility of corruption is very high, gold is very valuable asset. Administration will exploit the week points and try to make money out of it. Instead of this path, he should have chosed free education, hospital etc.

Because of this high expectations which he is setting, and because of huge debt if he fails to implement, opposition would target him badly and there is high chance people will lose credibility. If economy weakens later there is high chance opponents attack on this point.

This guy got huge votes, there is a possibility this 8 grams gold freebie was the reason for that huge response. Considering this fact, next politician might make it 20 grams gold. Now instead of buying voters they will focus on buying gold indirectly buying voters, again it will increase debt and also normalization would be the biggest problem.

Now by doing this, he made 8 grams gold as minimum expectation for poor family marriages, suppose if in a poor family girl side gave 8 grams of gold to boy. Now irrespective of the scheme like how long it will last, this expectation might remain same in their family. Like if scheme gets removed by different political party in future, their family members might be forced to give minimum 8 grams gold as a bribe because it will get normalized.

The promise itself is politically smart, because its targeting middle class families and most importantly women. But the important question here is, is it economically practical? As of now 8 gram value is 8*14000=112000 So roughly 1.12 lakh per marriage. As per random search in google, around 4 lakh marriages happens every year: So it would be around 4400 crore and this excludes administration, shipping and other expenses. For 2025-2026, as per reports revenue from tamilnadu is around 3.31 lakh crore and 4.39 lakh crore expenditure. So its already in 1 lakh crore deficit. Already tamilnadu having approximate 10 lakh crore debt. So even if its 5000 crore i personally feel its not right choice.

Being a girl, i will have that interest to wear small ornament. Consider girl from poor, even she will have that love towards ornaments its basic nature as per my understanding. So she will feel happy to wear small ornament, vijay made it possible. Thankful for him.
